Embark on an unforgettable journey through the diverse aquatic life of the Lakes at the Lakes Aquarium, where more than 30 spectacular, naturally themed habitats await you.

Be awed by the menacing pike, eels, perch, char and a multitude of other fascinating creatures that inhabit the lake. Watch playful otters as they forage around in their specially designed woodland home and discover a diverse range of mammals from all around the world, including the cheeky marmosets, menacing caiman, and piranha. Take a walk through the incredible underwater tunnel and enjoy a fish-eye view of our recreated Windermere lake bed.

Delve into the fascinating world of rock pools and uncover crabs, prawns, anemones, and baby flatfish. Meet the inquisitive rays and British sharks in the Morecambe Bay displays and get up close and personal with these captivating creatures.

With regular talks throughout the day and a special children’s quiz trail, as well as an action-packed schedule of events throughout the year, there’s always something new and exciting to see and do at the Lakes Aquarium!

Accessibility Information

There are dedicated disabled parking bays near the entrance to the aquarium, these spaces are pay and display.

They do not own or operate the car park so please pay at the pay and display machine, or if you need to pay by card or wish to talk to an attendant payment can be made at the Windermere Lake Cruises ticket office, situated at the edge of the car park directly beside the disabled bays.

The car park has 4 Disabled spaces & 266 General Spaces

Access around the aquarium is flat.

There is a lift on-site to access the second floor.

The cafe and gift shop is located on the ground floor adjacent to the station behind the Aquarium and is accessible

Disabled toilets are situated alongside the Aquarium on the station platform.

The path to these toilets is relatively flat and a dedicated disabled toilet is available for use.

The disabled toilet features the following:

  • widened doorway
  • lever style tap
  • handrails to the side of the toilet and wash basin
  • lowered wash basin
  • Discounted rates for adults and children with disabilities, they also offer one FREE carer admission per paying visitor with disabilities.
  • You may be asked for proof of disability status. This could be evidence of DLA, PIP, Blue Badge, or a medical letter confirming disability. please don’t be offended by the staff asking- some disabilities are not visible and we try to treat all our visitors the same.

Trained Assistance dogs are permitted within the aquarium however you must make a member of staff aware on arrival so that they can make our displays staff aware that a dog is on-site.
