Diggerland Durham offers a unique and action-packed day out where children and adults can operate real construction machinery. From driving full-size diggers and dumpers to taking part in fun challenges like digger-powered bowling, this hands-on attraction delivers a memorable experience for the whole family.
With over 20 rides and activities, visitors can enjoy thrilling experiences such as the Spindizzy, Groundshuttle, and Skyshuttle, alongside smaller digger activities and an indoor soft play area for younger children. The park is designed to combine excitement with interactive learning, making it a great choice for families looking for something a little different.
Diggerland Durham is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive experience for visitors with disabilities and additional needs. The attraction has its own on-site car park, including dedicated disabled parking spaces with level access to the main entrance.
Inside the park, pathways are made up of concrete, tarmac, and some gravel surfaces. While most areas are accessible, sections with gravel may require assistance for manual wheelchair users. The park is generally mobility friendly, although the nature of the attraction means that some rides and machinery may not be suitable or easy to access for all visitors.
Many of the diggers and machines are operated using hand controls, which are power-assisted and designed to be easy to use without requiring significant strength. However, staff are not able to assist with lifting or transferring visitors onto rides, so carers must be prepared to provide support where needed.
Accessible toilet facilities are located within the main building and include transfer space, handrails, lever taps, and other standard accessible features.
Diggerland offers free carer entry on a 1:1 basis for visitors who require assistance. If additional support is needed, multiple carers may also be admitted free of charge, provided appropriate documentation is presented. Accepted evidence includes PIP or DLA letters, Blue Badge, Access Card, EHCP documentation, and medical letters.
Assistance dogs are permitted within the park but must be registered, kept on a lead at all times, and supervised. Proof of assistance dog status may be required on arrival.
While not all rides are suitable for every visitor due to safety and equipment design, Diggerland Durham still provides a fun, engaging, and mobility friendly day out, with plenty of opportunities to get involved and enjoy a hands-on construction adventure.
