Nimbus Access Card

For individuals with disabilities, navigating the world can be a challenging experience. It can be difficult to communicate your needs to businesses and organizations, and it can be frustrating when they don’t understand how to provide appropriate accommodations. Fortunately, there are solutions to these issues, such as the Nimbus Access Card.

So, what is the Nimbus Access Card?

It’s an identification card for individuals with disabilities that communicates their legal rights and assists businesses in determining the appropriate accommodations to provide. It serves as proof of access requirements in certain situations, such as booking tickets and accessing free essential companion spaces. This ensures that adjustments are provided only to those who genuinely need them. Many organizations require proof of disability/access requirements in such circumstances, as it is proportionate and reasonable.

Interesting Facts

Since launching in September 2021, Nimbus has assigned over 70,000 cards to those in need. Over 1,000 venues and organizations in the UK, including theatres, music venues, sports stadiums, and theme parks, have committed to recognizing the Access Card and providing appropriate accommodations and services to cardholders with disabilities. It’s worth noting that the number of venues accepting the Access Card may change over time as new businesses and organizations join the program or existing ones leave.

For instance, over 40 theme parks within the UK have a ride access system for those with a registered disability. When you show your Access card to their guest relations team, you will be assigned a ride access pass or wristband allowing fast entry to the rides and attractions they have to offer. But it doesn’t stop there; the Access Card is widely recognized and can be used at various attractions throughout the rest of the world.

How do I get an access card ?

Register for it online by filling out an application form on the Nimbus Disability website. Provide evidence of disability, such as a letter from a healthcare professional or a disability benefit letter. Wait for the application to be processed and for the Access Card to be produced and sent to you. Once you receive it, present it at participating venues and businesses to access accommodations and services tailored to your specific needs. The Access Card is valid for three years, after which you will need to renew your registration.

It’s important to note that some venues and businesses may require additional proof of disability or may have specific guidelines for how The Access Card can be used. It’s always recommended to check with individual businesses before relying on The Access Card for access.

What disabilities does the access card cover?

Nimbus doesn’t base their card on your specific disability, but more on your needs. They have a series of symbols that are printed onto the card to show the venue what your specific needs are and how best to assist you. The graphic providedwill explain better on what each symbol means and how the attraction or venue can assist you.
