Animal lovers, make sure to add the Bristol Zoo Project to your family’s must-do list. With a focus on protecting threatened habitats, there’s plenty to discover at this destination.

Transport yourself to the tropics of Madagascar and come face-to-face with lemurs, or observe zebras roaming the grasslands of Africa. Brave the wolf encounter and venture to the secret Congo, or get up close and personal with towering giraffes at the Giraffe House. Once you’ve greeted the speedy cheetahs and whistling wolves, explore the outdoor woodland and discover hidden gems.

Embrace your inner Mowgli with a journey along the Barefoot Trail, climb and scramble up nets, and slide down the fireman’s pole at the Fun Fort. Take a leisurely stroll around the Sanctuary Garden and refuel at the Cafe before heading home.

This attraction has its own car park

This car park has dedicated disabled parking close to the entrance

The disabled parking is roughly 50 metres from the entrance.

There is level access between the car park and the main entrance.

The car park is hard standing

The pathways around the park are concrete.

Some paths can be loose and uneven.

Some paths can become muddy during bad weather so assistance may be required for those in a wheelchair.

Some parts of the park are unsuitable for wheelchair users.

This attraction has a disabled toilet

This attraction has 2 accessible toilet located in the following areas:

  • Behind the Fun Fort
  • Next to the Bear Wood Classroom
  • Benoue National Park

These toilet feature the following:

  • Transfer space to the side of the toilet
  • Wash basin with lever style tap
  • Handrails to the side of the toilet and wash basin
  • Disposal Facilities
  • Emergency Pull Cord

Assistance dogs are permitted within the zoo however there are area’s where assistance dogs are not allowed, Refer to the map here – Dog Map

Assistance dogs must follow the following rules.

• will not wander freely around the premises

• will sit or lie quietly on the floor next to their owner

• are unlikely to foul in a public place

• will not run up to zoo animals, chasing, barking and otherwise scaring them.

 

Please note there are certain areas where assistance dogs may not enter. A guide map showing these areas will be issued on arrival.

• Access to all animal walkthrough exhibits is not permitted due to biosecurity regulations.

• Access is restricted near to the enclosures of species where the sight of dogs has been known to cause distress to the animals.

Assistance dogs will be required to wear an identifying harness, jacket or lead slip at all times whilst on the premises. If you do not have one we can provide a lead slip at admissions to borrow for the day.

This attraction offers free entry for carers alongside a paying disabled guest.

To be eligible for free entry you must present evidence in one of the following forms:

  • Blue Badge
  • Statement of special educational needs from LEA or NHS, or a
  • Letter from a medical professional on NHS headed paper

Bristol Zoo Project has implemented an “Access To Nature” Scheme.

This scheme provides opportunities for disadvantaged members of the community to experience the Bristol Zoo Project and benefit from access to nature.

For those who may face barriers when visiting the zoo, Access to Nature offers the option of funded education sessions or a unique community membership.

To be eligible for the Access To Nature Scheme you must meet on of the following Criteria:

  • Those on low income

  • Adults and children with disabilities

  • The Global Majority

  • People experiencing mental health issues

  • People over 60 who may be at risk of isolation
