Marwell Zoo offers an immersive wildlife experience set within 140 acres of beautifully landscaped parkland in Hampshire. Designed as a walking safari, the zoo encourages visitors to explore at their own pace while discovering a wide variety of exotic and endangered animals in spacious, natural habitats.

Visitors can encounter an incredible range of species, including Rothschild’s giraffes, white rhinos, Amur tigers, Humboldt penguins, red pandas, snow leopards, and all three species of zebra. With such a diverse collection, every visit offers something new to discover, making it a fantastic destination for families and animal lovers alike.

The zoo is well equipped to support visitors with accessibility needs, offering a wide range of facilities and services to ensure an inclusive experience. One free carer admission is available for visitors who require support, with a variety of accepted documentation including PIP, DLA, Access Cards, and Blue Badges.

Accessibility across the park is thoughtfully considered, although visitors should be aware that due to its size, it involves a significant amount of walking and some inclines. To support this, Marwell Zoo offers both manual wheelchair hire and mobility scooter hire, which are highly recommended to book in advance due to demand. The zoo also operates a road train, including a free early service designed to assist visitors with mobility needs in reaching higher areas of the park.

Accessible toilet facilities are available across all toilet blocks, along with a fully equipped Changing Places facility, making the zoo suitable for visitors with more complex needs. This includes features such as a ceiling hoist and adjustable changing bench, with access via a Radar key.

Marwell Zoo is particularly strong in supporting visitors with additional needs, including autism-friendly features. Quiet spaces are available throughout the park, including designated indoor areas and quieter outdoor zones such as the Formal Garden and areas around Marwell Hall. Visitors are advised to explore the zoo in an anti-clockwise direction for a quieter experience. The zoo also supports the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme, helping staff identify and assist visitors who may need additional support.

For visitors with hearing impairments, hearing loops are available at key locations including admissions and the gift shop. Marwell Zoo is also proud to be Makaton Friendly, with signage and communication support available in selected areas, including its inclusive “Thriving Through Nature” exhibit.

Assistance dogs are welcome, although access is restricted in certain areas for animal welfare reasons. Visitors are encouraged to check the park map or speak to staff for guidance.

Additional facilities include accessible parking located close to the entrance, cafés, picnic areas, and a gift shop. While some areas can become busy and noisy during peak times, particularly around midday and in popular indoor exhibits, quieter spaces are available for those who need them.

Marwell Zoo combines conservation, education, and accessibility to create a well-rounded and inclusive day out. With extensive facilities, mobility support options, and sensory-friendly features, it is one of the leading mobility friendly wildlife attractions in the UK.
