The Scottish Seabird Centre, located in North Berwick overlooking the Firth of Forth, offers a unique and immersive wildlife experience suitable for all ages. This award-winning attraction combines coastal scenery with cutting-edge technology, allowing visitors to explore marine and birdlife in an engaging and accessible way.
Inside the Discovery Centre, visitors can use interactive live cameras to view seabirds and marine wildlife up close, including puffins, gannets, guillemots, seals, and even porpoises. These real-time feeds from nearby islands such as Bass Rock provide a fascinating insight into wildlife that would otherwise be difficult to see.
The centre also features a wildlife cinema, aquaria, environmental exhibits, and a soft play Kids’ Zone, making it an ideal all-weather destination for families. Visitors can relax in the café, which serves locally sourced food, or browse the gift shop for wildlife-themed souvenirs.
From March to October, visitors can also enjoy Seabird Seafari boat trips (weather permitting), offering a chance to explore the surrounding coastline and witness one of the world’s largest gannet colonies up close.
Accessibility is a key focus at the Scottish Seabird Centre, with step-free access throughout and lift access between floors. The venue is fully accessible for wheelchair users, and wheelchairs and walking aids are available to borrow with advance notice.
Accessible parking is available close to the centre for Blue Badge holders, with additional parking nearby. Drop-off points are also available for easier access. Accessible toilet facilities are located on the ground floor, and baby changing facilities are included.
The centre supports visitors with additional needs through a range of inclusive features. Sensory bags are available to borrow, containing items such as ear defenders, fidget tools, and tactile objects to support visitors with sensory sensitivities. The centre also recognises the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme, helping staff identify and assist visitors who may need additional support.
Assistance dogs are welcome, and British Sign Language support may be available with advance notice. Visitors should be aware that the centre can become busy and noisy at peak times, although staff are happy to advise on quieter visiting periods.
Free entry is available for carers accompanying visitors with accessibility needs, subject to appropriate documentation.
With its combination of indoor accessibility, interactive wildlife experiences, and thoughtful sensory support, the Scottish Seabird Centre is an excellent choice for a mobility friendly and inclusive day out in Scotland.
