New Wimbledon Theatre is South West London’s premier live entertainment venue, with a rich history dating back to 1910. Known for its diverse programme of musicals, comedy, dance, drama and its popular annual pantomime, the theatre also features a studio space dedicated to emerging talent and creative productions.
The venue is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all visitors. As part of this, New Wimbledon Theatre supports the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme, offering free lanyards from the Box Office for guests with hidden disabilities who may benefit from additional assistance during their visit.
Accessibility is centred around the Stalls level, where step-free access is available via an access lift. The theatre provides nine dedicated wheelchair spaces within the Stalls, allowing visitors to enjoy performances comfortably. The access lift has a capacity of 400kg and dimensions of approximately 1400mm depth by 800mm width, so it is advisable to check suitability if you have larger mobility equipment.
Accessible toilet facilities are located within the Stalls area and include baby changing facilities, making this level the most convenient and mobility friendly part of the venue. Bar facilities in this area are also adapted for accessibility.
Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the theatre and can remain with their owners during performances, ensuring support animals are fully accommodated.
Seating throughout the theatre is standard theatre style, with approximate dimensions of 460mm width and 470mm depth, and around 440mm between armrests. This can be useful when planning your visit and selecting suitable seating options.
To support visitors with visual impairments, the theatre offers services such as audio described performances and touch tours. For guests who are D/deaf or hard of hearing, the venue uses the Mobile Connect system, allowing sound to be streamed directly to personal devices for an enhanced listening experience. Captioned, BSL interpreted and relaxed performances are also scheduled throughout the year.
Overall, New Wimbledon Theatre combines historic character with essential accessibility features, providing a welcoming and mobility friendly environment where a wide range of visitors can enjoy live performances.
