The Richmond Theatre is a stunning Grade II-listed venue designed by renowned architect Frank Matcham. Opened in 1899, it remains a cornerstone of the local community, hosting everything from West End productions and musicals to opera, dance, and family entertainment.

While the theatre retains its historic charm, it also provides a range of accessibility features to help ensure a welcoming and inclusive experience for all visitors.

Accessible parking is limited directly outside the venue, but additional options are available at Old Deer Park Car Park nearby. Blue Badge holders can use designated bays without time restrictions, while local street parking is also available within certain limits.

Step-free access is available to the Stalls via a dedicated entrance located to the left of the main stairs. Once inside, the Stalls level offers flat access across the seating area, making it the most suitable option for guests with mobility needs. From Rows H to T, there is a gentle incline within the auditorium.

There are four wheelchair spaces available in the Stalls, and aisle seating is recommended for those wishing to transfer from a wheelchair into a theatre seat. Seats H1–4 and H22–25 are particularly suitable, offering additional legroom due to no seats directly in front.

It’s important to note that the theatre does not have a lift, and all other levels, including the Dress Circle and Upper Circle, are only accessible via stairs. The Ambassador Lounge is also accessed by stairs only.

An accessible toilet is located on the Stalls level near the step-free entrance, ensuring convenient access for those seated in this area.

Additional accessibility features include:

Assistance dogs welcome throughout the venue
Hearing support via the Mobile Connect system
Audio described, captioned, and BSL interpreted performances on selected dates
Touch tours available for some productions
At-seat service available to minimise movement during your visit
For visitors who may benefit from additional preparation, a visual story guide is available on request, helping to familiarise guests with the theatre environment and reduce anxiety before arrival.

Although the building’s historic design limits full step-free access throughout, the Stalls level provides a practical and accessible option, supported by helpful staff and thoughtful services to ensure a comfortable theatre experience.
