Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh is an award winning science and discovery centre that takes visitors on an interactive journey through the history of our planet. Located near the Scottish Parliament at the foot of Arthur’s Seat, the attraction combines immersive exhibitions, hands on displays and cutting edge technology to explore how Earth formed and evolved. Visitors move through a series of themed environments that recreate dramatic natural events and landscapes, from the intense heat of erupting volcanoes to the frozen landscapes of polar regions and the lush environment of a tropical rainforest. The experience also includes encounters with dinosaurs and a spectacular full dome planetarium show, offering a 360 degree cinematic exploration of space and the natural world.
Accessibility is a key part of the visitor experience, with the attraction designed to be largely mobility friendly. The Dynamic Earth tour is fully accessible for wheelchair users and prams, with ramps and lifts throughout the building allowing step free access between exhibition areas. The narrowest point along the tour route measures approximately 88 cm, and manual wheelchairs are available for visitors to borrow free of charge on arrival, subject to availability.
Dedicated parking is available on site, including accessible bays, and lift access connects the underground car park directly to the main attraction. Accessible toilets are available within the venue, and induction loops are installed to assist visitors with hearing impairments. The attraction also provides a range of additional accessibility resources including audio guides, large print materials, transcripts and sensory support tools such as ear defenders and sensory bags. These resources are designed to support visitors with visual, hearing or sensory needs and can be accessed through the venue’s accessibility toolkit.
Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the attraction, and staff are trained to support visitors with additional access requirements. The journey through the exhibitions is largely free flowing and typically takes between one and two hours, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace while experiencing the story of Earth through interactive science and engaging displays.
With immersive environments, interactive exhibits and inclusive facilities, Dynamic Earth offers an exciting and accessible educational experience for families and visitors exploring Edinburgh.
