The Ambassadors Theatre is a historic West End venue that has been entertaining audiences since 1913, famously hosting the original run of The Mousetrap for over two decades. Despite its traditional design, the theatre has introduced a range of accessibility features to help ensure a more inclusive experience for all visitors.

Step-free access is available to the Stalls via a platform lift located in the foyer, making this the most accessible area of the theatre. There are two dedicated wheelchair spaces positioned in Rows E and G of the Stalls. These can be accessed using the lift, although visitors should check that their wheelchair does not exceed the maximum dimensions of 85cm wide by 120cm long, with a weight limit of 400kg. If needed, staff can store wheelchairs safely during the performance for guests who wish to transfer into a theatre seat.

For those able to manage a small number of steps, there is limited access to the Circle, specifically Row F, which requires navigating five steps. However, the Stalls remain the most suitable option for step-free access throughout the performance.

An accessible toilet is located within the Stalls Bar area, close to the auditorium entrance, providing convenient access for guests seated in this section.

The theatre supports visitors with additional sensory and communication needs through a variety of services. A Sennheiser MobileConnect system is available across the auditorium, allowing guests to access enhanced audio via their own smartphone or by borrowing a device and headset from the venue. This can be particularly helpful for those who are D/deaf or hard of hearing.

For visually impaired guests, the theatre offers audio described performances and additional support resources, while sensory guides are available on request to help visitors prepare for their visit. The venue also partners with Picturepath, allowing guests to create personalised visual story guides to better understand the environment before arriving.

Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the theatre and can either remain with their owner in the auditorium or be cared for by staff during the performance if arranged in advance.

While the Ambassadors Theatre retains much of its historic charm, the combination of step-free access to the Stalls, dedicated wheelchair spaces, and thoughtful support services helps ensure that a wide range of visitors can enjoy a comfortable and inclusive theatre experience.
