The Apollo Victoria Theatre is one of the West End’s most recognisable venues, known for its grand art deco design and large-scale musical productions. Located close to Victoria Station, the theatre offers an impressive setting with a spacious auditorium and excellent sightlines, making it a popular destination for theatre-goers. While the building retains its historic character, a range of accessibility features are in place to support a more mobility friendly visit.

Inside, the theatre hosts major productions, most notably the long-running musical Wicked. The auditorium is arranged across multiple levels, with a large seating capacity that creates a vibrant and immersive atmosphere. Despite its size and traditional layout, efforts have been made to ensure accessibility for a wide range of visitors.

Accessibility for wheelchair users is available but requires some planning in advance. There are a limited number of wheelchair spaces located in the Circle, and these must be booked ahead of time. Entry involves step-free access via a ramp into the foyer, followed by a platform lift operated by staff to reach the seating area. Due to the nature of the building and lift system, visitors are advised to arrive at least 30 to 45 minutes before the performance to allow enough time for assisted access.

For those with reduced mobility who may not require a wheelchair space, there are seating options with fewer steps or step-free access when using the platform lifts. However, as with wheelchair access, these arrangements need to be planned in advance to ensure availability and smooth entry.

Toilet facilities include an accessible toilet located within the main foyer, which can be reached step-free once inside the building. The theatre also provides accessible seating arrangements and staff support to help visitors reach their seats comfortably.

Parking is not available on site, but the theatre’s central location means there are accessible transport links nearby, including step-free rail access from Victoria Station. Visitors travelling by car can find accessible parking within the surrounding area.

The theatre offers a range of assisted performances throughout the year, including captioned, audio-described and British Sign Language interpreted shows. These performances are designed to make productions more accessible for visitors with hearing or visual impairments.

Additional accessibility support includes hearing enhancement systems available throughout the auditorium, as well as large print and Braille materials that can be requested in advance. Assistance dogs are welcome and can either remain with their owner during the performance or be cared for by staff if preferred.

For visitors with sensory sensitivities, it is important to note that productions may include loud noises, flashing lights, smoke effects and strobe lighting. The theatre can provide detailed information in advance to help visitors prepare. A visual guide is also available to support those who may benefit from understanding the environment before arrival.

While the historic nature of the building means access can be more structured compared to modern venues, the combination of staff support, accessible seating, assisted performances and thoughtful planning ensures that the Apollo Victoria Theatre offers an inclusive and mobility friendly theatre experience.
