Birdworld, located near Farnham in Surrey, is one of the UK’s largest bird parks, set across 26 acres of landscaped gardens and home to more than 1,200 birds and animals. The park features over 200 species from around the world, offering visitors the chance to discover colourful parrots, flamingos, penguins and owls in carefully designed habitats. Daily talks and feeding sessions provide opportunities to learn more about the birds and the conservation work carried out by the park to help protect threatened species. Popular areas include Penguin Island and Penguin Beach, where visitors can watch penguin colonies during feeding times, the walk through Outback Landing aviary inspired by the Australian landscape, and Owl Parliament, a quieter section dedicated to birds of prey such as snowy and burrowing owls. Families can also explore Jenny Wren Farm, where children can see farmyard animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs and sheep, alongside play areas and gardens throughout the park.
Birdworld offers several features to support a mobility friendly visit. The attraction has its own car park with dedicated disabled parking located approximately 30 metres from the main entrance. From the parking area there is level access to the entrance, making arrival straightforward for visitors using wheelchairs or mobility aids. Around the park, pathways are generally level and consist of a mix of tarmac, shingle and grass surfaces. While most of the park offers step free access, there are some gentle slopes and a few doors on walkthrough exhibits that may require assistance to open.
Facilities within the park are designed to be accessible to a wide range of visitors. The restaurant and shop are wheelchair accessible, and there are seating areas located throughout the gardens where visitors can take a break while exploring. Free entry is available for carers accompanying a paying disabled visitor when appropriate supporting documentation is presented.
Registered assistance dogs are permitted within the park, although some restrictions apply for the safety of the animals and biosecurity reasons. Assistance dogs must belong to recognised accredited organisations and wear identifying harnesses while on site. Access to certain walkthrough animal areas, including Penguin Beach, Outback Landing and Jenny Wren Farm, is restricted for assistance dogs, and visitors will be given guidance on arrival regarding areas where dogs are not permitted.
With its extensive gardens, interactive animal experiences and accessible pathways, Birdworld offers an engaging and inclusive day out for families and wildlife enthusiasts visiting Surrey.
