Blackpool Zoo

Blackpool Zoo, located in Lancashire, is one of the UK’s most popular wildlife attractions and home to more than 1,500 animals from around the world. Set within spacious parkland, the zoo offers visitors the chance to explore a wide range of animal habitats and conservation programmes while enjoying a full day of discovery. Highlights include the impressive Project Elephant Base Camp, which houses Asian elephants in one of the largest indoor elephant facilities in the UK, as well as Giraffe Heights where visitors can observe giraffes from elevated viewing areas. Other popular exhibits include Gorilla Mountain, Orangutan Outlook and the Big Cat House, where visitors can see lions and Amur tigers. Regular animal talks, feeding demonstrations and interactive experiences throughout the day provide fascinating insights into the animals and their care.

The zoo offers several features designed to support a mobility friendly visit. Blackpool Zoo has its own car park with twelve designated disabled parking spaces, with the furthest space located approximately 75 metres from the main entrance. From the car park there is level access to the entrance, making arrival easier for visitors using wheelchairs or mobility aids. Inside the zoo, many pathways are designed to allow wheelchair access, and newer enclosures include low viewing windows and glass panels to ensure animals can be easily seen from a seated position or by younger visitors.

Accessible facilities are available across the site to support visitors with additional needs. Manual wheelchairs can be hired from reception with a refundable deposit, and several cafés and buildings, including the Lake View Café, have ramp access. At the Sea Lion Arena and Bird Arena there are designated viewing spaces for wheelchair users so visitors can comfortably enjoy the shows and presentations.

Accessible toilets are located in four toilet blocks throughout the zoo. These facilities include grab rails, lever taps, transfer space beside the toilet and emergency pull cords for additional safety. Free entry is also available for carers accompanying a paying disabled visitor when appropriate supporting documentation is presented.
