Chessington World of Adventures Resort in Surrey is one of the UK’s most exciting family attractions, combining a theme park, zoo and SEA LIFE aquarium all in one destination. With more than 40 rides and attractions alongside over 1,000 animals, the resort offers a full day of adventure for visitors of all ages. Thrill seekers can experience rides such as Vampire, Dragon’s Fury and Croc Drop, while families with younger children can enjoy themed adventures like The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure and Room on the Broom. Beyond the rides, Chessington Zoo is home to a wide range of animals including giraffes, lions and Amur tigers, with highlights such as the Tiger Rock ride where visitors may spot tigers walking along an overhead trail above the attraction. Live shows, animal talks and themed lands throughout the park add to the experience, making it a popular destination for both wildlife lovers and adrenaline seekers.
The resort includes several features to support a mobility friendly visit. Chessington has two on site car parks with dedicated disabled parking located in both areas, with the furthest disabled spaces approximately 150 metres from the main entrance. Pathways throughout the park are concrete laid and generally accessible, although the resort is built on a natural hill so there are slopes in some areas where visitors using wheelchairs or mobility aids may require assistance.
Accessible facilities are available across the park. Disabled toilets can be found in several locations including Lodge Gate, Shipwreck Coast, Adventure Point, Wild Wood and Forbidden Kingdom. These facilities include grab rails, lever taps, transfer space beside the toilet and emergency alarm systems. A Changing Places facility is also available in the Wild Wood area and includes an adult sized height adjustable changing bench, mobile hoist, peninsular toilet and additional floor space. RADAR keys are required to access these facilities.
Chessington operates a Ride Access Pass scheme for visitors who are unable to queue for extended periods due to a disability or medical condition. Applications must be completed in advance through Nimbus Disability. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters are available to hire from Lodge Gate, although numbers are limited and visitors may prefer to bring their own mobility aids due to the park’s hilly terrain.
Registered assistance dogs are welcome within the theme park areas but are not permitted on rides or inside zoo enclosures. Dogs must remain under control and follow the park’s guidance while on site.
Visitors who require a carer to accompany them during their visit can receive a free carer ticket when purchasing a standard admission ticket. Evidence of disability may be required, and the carer ticket must be collected in person from the ticket office on arrival.
