Flamingo Land Resort in North Yorkshire is a large family attraction that combines a theme park, zoo and holiday resort in one destination. The park features more than 100 rides and attractions ranging from high thrill roller coasters to family friendly rides suitable for younger visitors. One of the most famous rides is Mumbo Jumbo, known as one of the steepest roller coasters in the world. Other popular attractions include dodgems, water rides and interactive experiences that provide entertainment for visitors of all ages.
Alongside the theme park, Flamingo Land is also home to a large zoo with more than 140 species of animals from around the world. Visitors can see animals including lions, tigers, giraffes and meerkats, as well as attend daily animal presentations such as the sea lion show and bird of prey displays. The park also offers a wide range of restaurants, cafés and snack outlets, along with accommodation options including lodges and caravans for those wishing to extend their stay.
Flamingo Land provides a number of facilities to support a mobility friendly visit. The attraction has its own large car park with dedicated disabled parking spaces located around 40 metres from the main entrance. There is level access between the car park and entrance, and the majority of pathways throughout the park are concrete laid and mainly flat.
Accessible toilet facilities are located in several areas across the park including Plaza, Muddy Duck Farm, Splosh!, Metropolis and Muddy Duck Café. Each of these facilities includes handrails, transfer space beside the toilet, lever taps and emergency alarms. A Changing Places facility is available at the First Aid Centre and can be accessed using a RADAR key.
Flamingo Land operates a Queue Assistance Scheme for guests who may find it difficult to wait in standard queues due to a disability. Eligible visitors can apply for a Direct Access Pass from Guest Services on arrival. This pass allows entry to many rides through alternative entrances or ride exit gates. Visitors must provide proof of disability such as Department for Work and Pensions documentation or Disability Living Allowance letters along with photographic identification. The pass is issued as a wristband for the disabled guest and their carer, and in some cases an additional carer may be approved if required.
Guests with proof of disability may also purchase discounted entry tickets for themselves and their accompanying carer. Documentation must be presented on arrival and must be supported by photographic identification.
Wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge from the First Aid Centre, although a non monetary deposit such as a passport or driving licence is required. As availability is limited, visitors are advised to reserve wheelchairs in advance.
Assistance dogs are permitted within Flamingo Land provided they remain on a lead or harness at all times. However, assistance animals cannot accompany visitors on rides and must remain with another member of the group while the handler is on an attraction.
With its combination of theme park thrills, wildlife encounters and family entertainment, Flamingo Land offers a varied and accessible day out for visitors exploring North Yorkshire.
