Lake District Coast Aquarium, located in Maryport on the Cumbrian coast, is a family friendly attraction featuring over 55 themed tanks showcasing marine life from local waters and tropical environments. Visitors can discover a wide range of species including fish, crustaceans and jellyfish, as well as explore the Sea Lab and lobster hatchery, which highlights conservation and breeding efforts. The aquarium also offers additional family activities such as an outdoor playground and mini golf course, alongside coastal views across the Solway.
The aquarium is designed to be mobility friendly, with step free access throughout the main indoor exhibits and a ramp available at the entrance. All displays are located on one level, making it easier to navigate for visitors using wheelchairs or mobility aids. A manual wheelchair is available to borrow free of charge during your visit, and accessible toilets are located in reception and within the Wild Solway Exhibition Centre, featuring grab rails, raised height WC and lever taps. The onsite café is fully wheelchair accessible and provides indoor seating as well as an outdoor picnic area.
Limited accessible parking is available directly outside the aquarium, with additional Pay and Display parking nearby. While the main aquarium building is accessible, some outdoor areas such as the mini golf course and children’s play area may be more difficult to access due to uneven terrain and woodchip surfaces.
With step free indoor access, accessible facilities and wheelchair hire available, Lake District Coast Aquarium provides a practical and mobility friendly indoor day out in Cumbria for visitors interested in marine life and coastal conservation.
