Lakes Aquarium, located at Lakeside on the southern shore of Lake Windermere, offers visitors the chance to explore more than 30 naturally themed habitats featuring aquatic and wildlife species from the Lake District and beyond. Exhibits include native fish such as pike, perch and char, as well as rays, sharks, otters and tropical species. The underwater tunnel allows visitors to experience a recreated lake bed environment, while regular talks and interactive displays help visitors learn more about freshwater and marine conservation.
The aquarium is mobility friendly, with flat access throughout the main visitor areas and lift access available to reach the second floor. The café and gift shop, located on the ground floor, are fully accessible. Accessible toilet facilities are available nearby on the station platform and include a widened doorway, grab rails, lever taps and a lowered wash basin. Assistance dogs are permitted, and visitors are asked to inform staff on arrival.
Accessible parking bays are located close to the aquarium entrance within the Pay and Display car park, which provides four dedicated accessible spaces. The aquarium also offers discounted admission for visitors with disabilities and free carer entry for eligible guests with valid proof of disability, helping ensure visitors who require support can access the attraction comfortably.
With step free routes, lift access and accessible facilities, Lakes Aquarium provides a practical and mobility friendly indoor day out in the Lake District, suitable for visitors with accessibility requirements and their families.
