SEA LIFE Brighton is the world’s oldest operating aquarium, located in a historic Grade II listed building on Brighton seafront. Home to over 5,500 marine creatures, visitors can explore themed exhibits featuring sharks, turtles, coral reef fish and seahorses, as well as walk through the underwater tunnel and interactive conservation zones. Daily talks and feeding sessions provide an educational experience, while the building’s historic architecture adds to the unique atmosphere.
The aquarium offers mobility friendly access to most areas, with an accessible entrance available via a ramped underpass from the beach. While the Ocean Display auditorium is not fully accessible, the same exhibit can be viewed from the underwater tunnel, ensuring wheelchair users can still experience the display. Lift free routes are supported by ramps where possible, although some areas in the Victorian arcade have limited clearance due to the historic layout.
An accessible toilet and a full Changing Places facility are available onsite, including a ceiling hoist, height adjustable changing bench, adjustable sink and emergency pull cord, providing additional support for visitors with higher accessibility needs. Assistance dogs are welcome, and free carer entry is available for eligible visitors with valid proof of disability.
There is no dedicated onsite parking, but nearby car parks such as The Lanes Car Park (approximately 550 metres away) provide accessible parking bays. With accessible facilities, Changing Places provision and alternative viewing routes, SEA LIFE Brighton provides a mobility friendly indoor attraction on the Sussex coast.
