Tynemouth Aquarium is a coastal attraction in North East England featuring more than 40 exhibits showcasing marine life from around the world and native UK waters. Visitors can explore themed zones including the Amazonian display with piranhas and freshwater rays, coral reef habitats with tropical fish and turtles, and the North Sea section featuring local species. Interactive touch pools and daily talks provide educational opportunities, making it a popular family attraction on the Tynemouth seafront.
The aquarium is mostly mobility friendly, with the majority of exhibits located on one level and accessible routes available for wheelchair users and visitors with mobility aids. While some displays involve steps, these exhibits can also be viewed from accessible ground level viewing areas. Accessible toilet facilities are available onsite and include grab rails, a lowered wash basin and emergency pull cord. Guide dogs are welcome throughout the aquarium and restaurant.
There is no dedicated onsite parking, but nearby public car parks such as Grand Parade Car Park provide accessible parking bays close to the entrance. Tynemouth Aquarium also offers free carer entry for eligible visitors with valid proof of disability, helping ensure accessible access for those who require additional support.
With step free access to most exhibits, accessible facilities and nearby accessible parking, Tynemouth Aquarium provides a mobility friendly indoor day out in Tyne and Wear.
