Wrest Park

Wrest Park in Bedfordshire is an elegant country estate known for its beautifully restored mansion and extensive historic gardens. Originally developed over several centuries and redesigned in the 19th century, the estate features grand architecture surrounded by formal terraces, ornamental lakes and landscaped parkland. Visitors can explore the house’s historic interiors, stroll through the impressive parterre gardens and enjoy peaceful walks through woodland and open green spaces. The estate also features a visitor centre, café and gift shop, making it a relaxing destination for a full day out.

Accessibility is supported across much of the estate to provide a mobility friendly experience. The on site car park includes 14 dedicated disabled parking bays located within the walled garden close to the visitor centre. Pathways throughout the park are a mixture of gravel, concrete and tarmac, with many routes suitable for wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility. The visitor centre and walled garden are fully accessible, and a free golf cart shuttle service operates regularly to help visitors explore the wider grounds. Two manual wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge, and mobility scooters can be hired in advance by booking with the site. Within the house, a small lift located near the Conservatory and Countess’s Sitting Room allows access to the terrace for views over the parterre, although wheelchair access to the first floor is not available. Some areas of the gardens, including the Orangery and Pavilion, include steps or steeper slopes.

An accessible toilet is located within the main house, equipped with handrails, lever taps and transfer space. Audio tours and transcripts are available to help visitors explore the history of the estate and its landscape. Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the attraction, and water bowls are provided at the visitor centre.
