Sandcastle Waterpark in Blackpool is one of the UK’s largest indoor waterparks, offering a wide range of slides, pools and interactive water features for visitors of all ages. Designed as a tropical-style attraction, it combines high-energy rides with more relaxed areas, making it suitable for both families and individuals. The venue places a strong emphasis on accessibility and planning, providing a well-structured and mobility friendly experience supported by a wide range of facilities.
The waterpark features a variety of attractions including large flume rides, interactive splash zones and leisure pools. While many of the rides are designed for thrill-seekers, there are also calmer areas available, allowing visitors to enjoy the environment at their own pace. Wide walkways and a spacious layout help visitors move comfortably between different areas of the park.
Accessibility throughout the building is a key strength, with level access from reception through to the changing areas and poolside. Lift access is also available to reach the changing village. The internal layout includes wide, sloped pathways and automatic or push-button doors, making it easier for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility to navigate the facility independently.
Changing facilities are particularly well equipped, including a dedicated Changing Places wet room located poolside. This includes a full-size changing bed, an H-track hoist system, adjustable sink, shower and accessible toilet. In addition, there are multiple poolside wet rooms with showers, toilets and lockers, providing further accessible options for visitors.
Access into the water is supported with sloped pool entry points and the availability of water-accessible wheelchairs. These features allow for a more gradual and controlled entry into the pools, supporting visitors who may find steps difficult. Additional equipment such as beach wheelchairs are also available to hire, allowing visitors to access nearby coastal areas more easily.
The waterpark also provides strong support for visitors with sensory and additional needs. A dedicated quiet and sensory room is available within the attraction, offering a calm space away from the busy pool environment. Quiet sessions are available during the first hour of each operational day, with reduced noise, no music and fewer visitors. Guests are welcome to use ear defenders, and familiarisation visits can be arranged in advance to help visitors feel more comfortable before attending.
Accessibility support extends to a range of additional services, including queue assistance for rides, trained staff available to help throughout the visit and a variety of planning tools such as audio guides, large print materials and visual resources. Hearing loops are available at reception and within cafés and shops, and flashing fire alarms are installed throughout the building.
Carers are supported through a free essential companion ticket scheme for eligible visitors, helping to make visits more accessible. Assistance dogs can also be accommodated through a dedicated sitting service, which can be arranged in advance.
While some of the larger slides and fast-paced attractions may not be suitable for all visitors, the combination of accessible facilities, inclusive services and thoughtful design makes Sandcastle Waterpark one of the most comprehensive and mobility friendly water attractions in the UK.
