Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life is located in the city of Carlisle, in the county of Cumbria, England. The museum showcases the military history of the county of Cumbria and its people, with a particular focus on the local regiments, such as the Border Regiment and the King’s Own Royal Border Regiment.
The museum’s collections include a wide range of objects, including uniforms, weapons, medals, photographs, and personal belongings of soldiers. The exhibits cover a range of conflicts, from the Anglo-Saxon period to the present day, with a particular emphasis on the First and Second World Wars.
The museum is housed in two historic buildings, the Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life, and the Carlisle Castle. Visitors can explore the castle’s medieval walls, towers, and dungeons, and learn about its use as a military fortress throughout history. In the museum building, visitors can discover the story of the county’s military history through a variety of interactive exhibits, displays, and videos.
One of the highlights of the museum is the recreation of a World War I trench, complete with sound and lighting effects, which provides visitors with a unique insight into the conditions experienced by soldiers on the front line.
The museum also offers a range of educational programs and events, including workshops, lectures, and guided tours, as well as a gift shop and cafe.

Most of the galleries are on the ground floor.
