Dover Castle
Attraction Information
Dover Castle is an impressive medieval fortress located in the town of Dover, Kent, in southeast England. The castle is over 900 years old and has been a key part of England’s defense throughout its history.
For disabled visitors, the castle has made efforts to ensure accessibility. There are designated parking spaces for disabled visitors near the entrance, and a ramp provides access to the castle’s main entrance. The castle’s Great Tower, which is one of the largest and oldest keeps in Europe, has a lift to take visitors to the upper levels.
In addition, there are audio guides available, which provide audio descriptions of the various rooms and areas of the castle. The guides allow disabled visitors to experience the castle’s rich history and culture without the need to read information panels.
The castle also features a range of other attractions, including underground wartime tunnels, a medieval royal palace, and a collection of historic artillery. These attractions are all accessible to disabled visitors, and the castle has made provisions to ensure that everyone can enjoy its many features.
Finally, becoming a member of English Heritage can provide access to over 400 historic sites across the UK, including Dover Castle. This membership includes free entry to sites, as well as exclusive members’ events and discounts on purchases.
