Lake District Coastal Aquarium

Attraction Information

The Lake District Coast Aquarium has 55 themed tanks showcasing fish, crustaceans and other marine life found around the Cumbrian coastline, plus a grand tropical marine community reef tank.

Plenty to look at with educational information offered and charming sights to keep the smalls happy like a kreisel tank full of moon jellies! Their new Sea Lab is now available to explore too, featuring a Lobster Hatchery! Sea Lab opened in July 2015 during their extension works.

The Aqua Blaster water cannon stall game and Radio Controlled Boat zone are on hand to provide some extra amusement! A great use for their pocket money!

The 14-hole mini course faces 2 sides of the aquarium, with the last hole parallel to the dock for a grand visual finish. The course is suitable for all ages as the holes vary in degrees of skill or luck required, so plenty of room for show offs to show off and well as for beginners to begin.

There’ also a nautically themed adventure playground outside, offering up shipwrecks, slides and even an aerial ropeway! With equipment ranges suitable for 5 to 15 years old and loads of options for physical play and exercise, this area is free to play in!

 

Accessibility Information

There is limited disabled parking at the front of the Lake District Coastal Aquarium. however, there are plenty of pay and display spaces.

There is one manual wheelchair available for use while visiting the aquarium, this is free of charge.

There are two disabled toilets within the venue one located in reception and the second located in the Wild Solway Exhibition Centre.

The toilets include:

  • A raised height WC 
  • A basin with lever taps
  • The access door opens outward
  • Supporting grab rails

The Cafe is open to the general public and is fully wheelchair accessible with views over the Solway if the cafe is full there is a 60+ seater picnic area to the outside of the venue.

  • The entrance can be accessed by both steps to the front of the entrance and a ramp to the left of the steps.
  • The aquarium is all based inside and is situated across one level with step-free access.
  • Disabled toilets can be found in the reception and in the Wild Solway Exhibition Centre
  • There is a 12-hole mini golf course ( this is not accessible to wheelchair users, those not in a wheelchair but with mobility issue’s may find it difficult to navigate due to the surrounding terrain )
  • There is a children nautical theme playpark to the rear of the aquarium the ground is made of woodchip so wheelchair users may find it difficult to navigate without assistance.
