Amazona Zoo in Cromer, Norfolk offers a unique wildlife experience focused on animals and birds from South America. Home to more than 200 animals, the zoo provides visitors with the opportunity to discover species rarely seen elsewhere in the UK, including jaguars, monkeys, flamingos, tapirs and a variety of reptiles and tropical birds. The park highlights the rich biodiversity of South American habitats while also promoting conservation and education, helping visitors learn about the challenges many species face in the wild. Families can explore the animal enclosures throughout the park and then enjoy additional attractions including large jumping pillows, a children’s play area and the indoor Jungle Tumble soft play centre, which features slides, rope bridges and tunnels for younger visitors.
The zoo offers several facilities designed to support a mobility friendly visit. The on site car park includes designated disabled parking spaces located close to the park entrance, with level access from the car park to the main entrance area. The car park surface is compacted earth with gravel, and a wooden walkway connects the parking area to the entrance, which may become slippery during wet weather. Many of the main pathways throughout the zoo are concrete, although some areas include gravel paths or may become muddy after heavy rain.
Visitors will encounter a mixture of gentle slopes and level routes across the site. There is a slope leading up to the children’s play park and another incline to access the indoor tropical area. Despite these gradients, most animal enclosures can be viewed from accessible pathways, allowing visitors using wheelchairs or mobility aids to see many of the animals comfortably.
Accessible facilities are available within the park. Two accessible toilets are located at the main entrance and near the children’s play area, each equipped with grab rails, lever taps and transfer space beside the toilet. The zoo also offers concessionary entry for carers accompanying a disabled visitor, with one carer admitted free of charge when accompanying a paying guest and presenting appropriate supporting documentation.
With its focus on South American wildlife, family friendly attractions and accessible visitor facilities, Amazona Zoo offers an enjoyable and educational day out for visitors exploring the North Norfolk coast.
