Filey Zoo is a small family run wildlife attraction located just outside the seaside town of Filey in North Yorkshire. Set within around five acres of open countryside, the park offers a relaxed and friendly environment where visitors can enjoy a mix of animals, gardens and wildlife habitats. The zoo is home to more than 75 species of animals including exotic mammals, colourful birds, reptiles and domestic farm animals. Visitors can see species ranging from meerkats and Asian leopard cats to parrots, reptiles and alpacas, while daily keeper talks and feeding sessions offer opportunities to learn more about the animals and their care.

Alongside the animal exhibits, the zoo also features a variety of themed gardens including a sensory garden and formal garden surrounded by aviaries filled with smaller birds. There are several wildlife areas throughout the park, a children’s play area and plenty of seating and picnic spaces where visitors can relax while enjoying the surrounding countryside. Some of the larger animals can be fed using special animal food available to purchase at the entrance or gift shop. The on site café serves light refreshments including drinks, sandwiches, cakes and snacks, with both indoor and outdoor seating available.

Filey Zoo aims to provide a welcoming environment for visitors of all ages and abilities. The park is mostly level with only a slight incline towards the furthest areas of the site. Many seating areas are positioned throughout the zoo, some of which are covered to provide shelter during wet or sunny weather.

Accessible parking is available close to the entrance with three clearly marked Blue Badge spaces located on a tarmac surface next to the entrance building. The main car park uses loose gravel, and visitors who may have difficulty on this surface are encouraged to ask staff for assistance.

From the car park, a smooth tarmac path leads to the entrance area. Inside the zoo, the first section of pathways is tarmac, while the majority of paths throughout the park are wide compacted stone surfaces. These paths are generally suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, although loose stones may occasionally be present and the surface may soften slightly during very wet weather. The formal garden paths use compacted gravel, while the Secret Garden area includes a ramp leading to a wooden deck overlooking the wildlife pond.

Accessible toilet facilities are located near the entrance around 30 yards from the gate. The toilet block includes male and female toilets with baby changing facilities as well as a separate unisex accessible toilet. The accessible toilet includes handrails, lever taps and sufficient transfer space beside the toilet.

Hand washing stations are located around the park including near the toilets, in the centre of the zoo and close to the play area.

The café is located near the entrance and toilets and is accessible via a ramp leading to a raised terrace. The café interior has level flooring and staff are available to assist visitors if required.

Filey Zoo welcomes well behaved dogs throughout most areas of the park provided they remain on a short lead. Dogs are not permitted in the children’s play area but water bowls and facilities are available around the zoo.

With its relaxed atmosphere, variety of animals and gardens, and welcoming environment, Filey Zoo offers a charming and accessible day out for visitors exploring the Yorkshire coast.
