Longleat Safari and Adventure Park in Wiltshire offers one of the UK’s most exciting wildlife days out, combining a drive through safari experience with a wide range of walk around attractions. Visitors begin their adventure on the famous safari drive, travelling through large animal reserves where they may see lions, wolves, white rhinos and other wildlife roaming in expansive habitats. The safari route offers a unique opportunity to observe animals from the comfort of your vehicle, while the park’s walk through areas provide even more experiences. Guests can explore Jungle Kingdom, see sea lions swimming and playing, visit the Gorilla Colony, and meet resident hippos Spot and Sonia. Other highlights include the Jungle Cruise boat ride, the African Village where giraffes and zebras can be seen up close, Koala Creek, the Lemur Walk and immersive attractions such as the bat cave and monkey temple.
Longleat provides a range of facilities designed to support a mobility friendly visit across much of the park. There are two main car parks with dedicated disabled parking. The main car park offers 48 disabled spaces located within approximately 150 metres of the main walk around attractions, while the African Village car park provides an additional seven accessible spaces within around 100 metres of the entrance to the area. The car parks are tarmac surfaced and there is generally level access from the disabled parking areas to the main walk around sections, including restaurants, shops and toilet facilities. Pathways throughout most of the park are concrete and relatively level, although some historic areas include cobbled surfaces, steps or steeper gradients.
Many of the attractions offer accessible options for visitors with limited mobility. The Jungle Cruise boat ride is accessible for wheelchair users with designated spaces available on board, and the park train includes a specially adapted carriage that can accommodate a wheelchair user and companion. The Adventure Castle play area also includes some accessible play equipment such as a wheelchair swing, although not all equipment within the area is fully accessible. The famous hedge maze is not suitable for wheelchair users due to its layout.
Longleat House can be visited by guests with limited mobility through pre booked wheelchair tours accessed from the rear entrance. Due to fire safety regulations, only two wheelchairs are permitted inside the house at any one time and visitors must arrange their visit in advance through Guest Relations.
Accessible toilet facilities are located across the park in several areas including the Safari Drive entrance, African Village, Jungle Cruise area, Cellars Café, Chameleon Tree Restaurant, Coffee House and near the Sweet Shop. These facilities include grab rails, lever taps, transfer space and emergency pull cords, and are accessed using a RADAR key available from Guest Services. A limited number of wheelchairs and mobility scooters are also available to hire, with scooters recommended to be reserved in advance due to availability.
Assistance dogs are welcome within certain areas of the park but are not permitted in animal areas such as the Safari Park, Jungle Kingdom, Jungle Cruise or Monkey Temple. Basic kennel facilities are available near the Safari drive through entrance for visitors bringing dogs.
Free entry is offered to carers accompanying a paying disabled guest on a one to one basis when appropriate supporting documentation is provided. With its combination of safari drive through experiences, engaging animal encounters and accessible facilities across much of the park, Longleat Safari and Adventure Park provides a memorable wildlife day out for visitors of all ages.
