The Princess Theatre, Torquay is a leading entertainment venue on the English Riviera, hosting a wide variety of performances throughout the year. From West End musicals and live music to comedy, ballet, opera, and family shows, it brings world-class entertainment to the South Devon coast in a vibrant and welcoming setting.
The theatre is committed to creating an inclusive experience, with a range of accessibility features designed to support visitors with additional needs.
For those arriving by car, there are four disabled parking spaces located directly outside the theatre, and Blue Badge holders can also use additional spaces along Torbay Road. A dropped kerb nearby provides easier access to the entrance.
The main entrance includes steps, but a ramp is available to the right-hand side near the café/bar, offering step-free access into the building. Inside, the Stalls can be accessed via double doors, with a gentle slope leading down to the front row, making this area more suitable for guests with limited mobility.
There are four dedicated wheelchair spaces available for guests who wish to remain in their wheelchair during the performance. Companion seating is provided either next to or very close to these spaces. Wheelchair users are typically seated within the Stalls area for the easiest access.
A lift is available from the foyer to the Circle bar level, although access to the Circle seating area does involve stairs once inside. The theatre layout means the Stalls generally provide the most accessible seating option.
Accessible toilet facilities are available near the Stalls wheelchair seating area and also within the main foyer via the café/bar area, ensuring convenient access during your visit.
Additional accessibility features include:
Assistance dogs welcome throughout the venue
Hearing support via the Mobile Connect system (usable from any seat)
Audio described, captioned, BSL interpreted, and relaxed performances available on selected dates
Staff available to assist with access needs and seating arrangements
Seating throughout the theatre features fixed armrests, with an average width of approximately 45cm. For additional comfort, seats with improved legroom include the front row of the Stalls, selected seats such as V36–42, and aisle seating.
While the theatre retains elements of its traditional design, thoughtful accessibility measures and staff support help ensure that as many visitors as possible can enjoy a comfortable and inclusive theatre experience.
