Shepreth Wildlife Park

Shepreth Wildlife Park is an award-winning wildlife attraction in Cambridgeshire, offering a diverse and engaging experience with animals including tigers, red pandas, otters, lemurs, and reptiles. Set across a compact nine-acre site, the park combines conservation, education, and family-friendly activities in an accessible and easy-to-navigate environment.

Visitors can enjoy daily animal talks and feeding sessions, providing insight into the animals and the park’s conservation work. Highlights include Bug City, the nocturnal house, and interactive experiences such as feeding fish from the jetty. For younger visitors, Ringo’s Play Barn and the outdoor play areas offer plenty of opportunities for fun, including a newer accessible play area with wheelchair-friendly equipment.

Shepreth Wildlife Park is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for all visitors. The majority of pathways are tarmac and suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, allowing a full circuit of the park to be completed using accessible routes. However, some areas include gravel paths or natural uneven surfaces due to tree roots, which may require additional effort to navigate.

Most animal enclosures can be viewed from ground level, although certain areas such as the tiger viewing gallery are not wheelchair accessible. Indoor exhibits like the Tropical House and Nocturnal House have doors that remain closed to maintain temperature, but these open wide enough to allow wheelchair access.

Accessible toilet facilities are available at multiple locations across the park, including the gift shop, Discovery Centre, farmyard, and Ringo’s Play Barn. While there is no wheelchair hire available on-site, visitors are welcome to bring their own mobility aids.

The park offers designated disabled parking spaces close to the entrance, with level access into the site.

Shepreth Wildlife Park also provides a range of inclusive features for visitors with additional needs. Sensory-friendly resources such as touch and feel exhibits, interpretation boards, and quiet sessions in the Discovery Centre are available. Sensory activities and quieter times are offered, particularly during weekends and school holidays, helping create a more comfortable experience for neurodivergent visitors.

For visitors with visual impairments, tactile exhibits and pre-arranged guided experiences can be provided. Educational sessions can also be tailored for visitors with additional needs through the on-site Discovery Centre.

Animal experiences at the park are designed with accessibility in mind, with several fully wheelchair-accessible options available, including otter, capybara, and junior keeper experiences. Some experiences may involve uneven terrain or restricted access, so advance enquiries are recommended.

Assistance dogs are permitted, although there are restrictions in certain areas such as walkthrough exhibits and near specific animal enclosures. Visitors are advised on arrival of any restricted areas and alternative routes. Emotional support dogs are also permitted under similar conditions, although other animals are not allowed.
