Pendon Indoor Model Village and Railways offers an immersive and informative experience where visitors can learn about the beautiful rural landscape of the 1920s and 30s through highly detailed and accurate models. The friendly volunteer staff are passionate about sharing their knowledge and are happy to answer any questions you may have. The 90-minute tour covers 3 indoor galleries, including the Dartmoor Scene with its West Country landscape and Brunel viaduct, and the Vale Scene, which features realistic people, wildlife, and machinery. Binoculars are provided to help you fully appreciate the impressive level of detail, and knowledgeable guides are available to provide context and background information.
Accessibility Information
- Most exhibits are at a height of 1.4 metres (4ft 6in) above floor level, with restricted views for young people and wheelchair users
- Periscopes and Hop On stools are available at Reception for viewing assistance
- The first floor with the Madder Valley Railway and Dartmoor Gallery is fully accessible, with an allocated parking space for people with mobility issues and accessible toilet facilities
- The second floor with the Vale Gallery and temporary exhibition space is accessible by a stair lift, with non-motorised wheelchairs allowed to be carried upstairs
- The Vale Gallery is on a ramp, with fold-down benches in two areas
- There is a small step in the temporary exhibition space
