South Wales Miners Museum

Attraction Information

The South Wales Miners Museum is a historical museum located in the village of Afan Argoed, near Port Talbot in South Wales. The museum is dedicated to the history and heritage of the mining industry in South Wales, and provides a fascinating insight into the lives of miners and their families.

The museum is housed in the former colliery offices of the Cynheidre Colliery, which was one of the largest coal mines in the area. The building itself is a piece of industrial heritage, with many of the original features still intact, including the weighbridge and the winding house.

Inside the museum, there are a number of exhibits and displays that showcase the different aspects of the mining industry, from the tools and equipment used by the miners to the social and cultural life of the mining communities. There are also displays that illustrate the impact of the mining industry on the environment and the wider community.

One of the highlights of the museum is the recreated miner’s cottage, which provides an authentic glimpse into the living conditions of the miners and their families. There is also a blacksmith’s forge, a lamp room, and a winding engine that visitors can see in operation.
