Tynemouth Aquarium

Attraction Information

Tynemouth Aquarium is an aquarium located on the coast of North East England, in Tynemouth, Tyne and Wear. The aquarium offers visitors the opportunity to discover the fascinating creatures that live beneath the waves, with over 40 different exhibits showcasing a wide variety of marine life from around the world.

One of the highlights of the aquarium is the Amazonian feature, where visitors can see a range of species from the Amazon River, including piranhas, catfish and freshwater rays. Another popular exhibit is the North Sea section, which features native species such as seals, cod and lobsters.

Visitors can also explore the world of coral reefs in the Coral Sea exhibit, where they can see a range of colourful fish, including clownfish, as well as rays and even turtles. The aquarium also has a touch pool where visitors can get hands-on experience with some of the creatures, such as starfish and crabs.

Tynemouth Aquarium also offers a range of experiences and activities, such as a behind-the-scenes tour, birthday parties, and even the chance to become a marine biologist for the day.

Accessibility Information

The aquarium does not have a dedicated car park however there is a public car park to the front of the venue

Grand Parade Car Park:

This car park has 4 Disabled spaces and 75 General Spaces
Charges are not applicable for Blue Badge users

Beaconsfield Car Park:

This car park has 7 Disabled spaces and 99 General Spaces
Charges are applicable for Blue Badge users

The majority of aquarium displays are on one level and there are some steps to certain displays however, these displays can also be seen from the ground level.

In some areas of the Aquarium there is low lighting for the welfare of our marine life.

There is an accessible toilet at the venue.

The toilet features the following:

  • Lower wash basin
  • Handrails to the side of the toilet and the wash basin
  • Emergency pull cord
  • disposal facilities

Unfortunately the closest changing place is Whitley Bay Customer First Centre

This changing place is roughly 1.5 Miles from the venue a 30 minute walk or 5 minute drive

Guide Dogs are permitted within the aquarium and restaurant, you may be asked for paperwork or for your guide dog to wear an identifiable vest.

upon arrival just make staff aware that you will be visiting with a guide dog so they know that a dog will be present on site.

Tickets for guests with additional needs can be purchased at the gate, one carer is admitted free with each disabled guest ticket, proof of carer status will be required on entry and any additional carers will need to purchase a standard ticket.
